Camp Grounds

Congo Campground, Congo NSW

Congo Campground

Congo Campground is approx. 35kms south of Batemans Bay and just 330kms south of Sydney.

It is a bitumen road in from the north except some small sections of gravel road with minor corrugations. When exiting to the south it is a short drive on a gravel road through the National Park back to the Princess Highway.

The Campground has cold showers, toilet facilities and a basic camp kitchen. This is National Park and no pets and no fires are allowed. Weekends at Congo Campground can get very busy and there is no booking ahead, only turn up and hope a spot is available.

Camping is alongside the river although it is not connected to the ocean beach. The beach is fantastic and great for surfing and fishing. We saw dolphins go past and a guy catch a great feed of squid from a kayak just offshore.

We only stayed the one night but it’s a superb location and a fair price.

Cost to stay is $12 per adult. Children 5-15yo are $6 each per night.

Our stay was 21st February 2019.

Our camera equipment we use for all our photos and videos are:

Samsung Note 10 Plus Phone – https://ebay.to/2XOjXhi – Most of our photos are simply from our phones. The Samsung phone cameras are pretty insane. Our phones have 512gb storage in ours but the 256gb in this one is heaps. We have sourced this one which is approx $500 less than we paid for ours.

Canon 800d – https://ebay.to/2XQYnsk – the latest DSLR Canon 24mp camera, buy here to save.

Lenses – Canon 50mm lens – https://ebay.to/3nx5pyG  This is the lens I use the least, ideal for still, close up shots.
Canon 24-105mm lens – https://ebay.to/3eCueUo This is my all round, everyday use, zoom lens. Amazing quality, great price.
Canon 70-300mm lens – https://ebay.to/33xYeht – I use this one a lot for long range shots.
Sigma 10-20mm lens – https://ebay.to/2TWt0vA  – My wide angle lens for all my inside photos & video plus lots more, love this lens.

Our Go Pro 7 Hero Black – https://ebay.to/34thTP1  –  is an awesome piece of equipment. I use this for all underwater, action video and some general use. Buy here brand new and great value.

Mavic Pro Platinum Drone – https://ebay.to/2ARPxTo  This is an absolute ripper of a drone. The Fly More Combo will provide you with everything you will need. I use this for all my aerial footage and this price is well below other retail stores.

Camp Grounds

Black Rocks Campground, Bundjalung National Park, Esk NSW

Black Rocks Canpground

Black Rocks Campground is in the Bundjalung National Park in northern NSW approx a 40km drive south from Evans Head.

The beautiful NSW Coastline town of Yamba to the south is approximately an hours drive away.

An easy short stroll from your campsite at Black Rocks Campground to the beach and you quickly know where they got the name from.

Beach in front of the Black Rocks Campground
Black Rocks Campground beach

The rocks are what is called Coffee rock, a name given to sand that has hardened and formed over many thousands of years. It is a beautiful beach with stunning contrasts from the rock formations.

4WD Access from Black Rocks Campground

Access to the beach from the campground by 4WD is not possible but you can drive there from Iluka which is a bit further south.

The road in to the Campground includes approx 15kms of dirt road however it is in pretty good condition and we had no problems driving in with our 2WD Motorhome.

The campground has drop toilets and BBQ’s and each site includes a Fire pit and clothesline.

There is No water available at the Black Rocks Campground, you will need to bring your own. A dump point is available.

5 Essentials – 4WD Accessories

  1. 4WD Recovery Tracks will get you out of most situations, especially in sand. We bought a pair of these generic branded tracks that have worked well whilst other brands include the Australian made TRED or the Australian Designed and made MAXTRAX 4wd Recovery Tracks.
  2. For our 4WD we went with this EDECOA 1500 3000w Pure Sine Wave Inverter which has been excellent value and works great.
  3. I’m a massive fan of my Victron IP65 15a Battery Charger. I use it often to give batteries a boost and it really is an essential part of my tool kit.
  4. When camping my Kings 200w Solar Blanket gets a lot of use and works really well. Only downside is it doesn’t work with Lithium batteries.
  5. Brass Tyre Deflators are a fast and easy way to lower your tyre pressure to your desired level. Perfect for when you are hitting the beach.

Banka Banka Station

Banka Banka Station was our first stop for accommodation in the Northern Territory and was a very enjoyable stay.

Workman’s Beach Campground, Agnes Water Qld

Workmans Beach Campground

Workman’s Beach Campground is in Agnes Water, Queensland and is one of Australia’s best Campgrounds.

The Rangers who look after it are fantastic and very friendly and it’s located just a short walk to the bay at beautiful Workman’s Beach.

There’s also a scenic walking track to more beaches and lookouts. Agnes Water features in our Best Beaches in Australia!

1770 Sunset
Amazing Agnes Water/1770 Sunset

Distance from Agnes Water to 1770

Agnes Water is just 5kms from spectacular 1770 where you will see the most incredible Sunsets on the East Coast of Australia.

Or a short drive further up the road to the south will take you to the amazing Paperbark Forest Boardwalk.

It’s absolutely Free and takes you through a beautiful scenic walk through an enchanting forest and across wetlands where you’ll need to use balance to walk across sections only accessible by stepping stones.

Workman's Beach Campground is only minutes from the Paperbark Forest Boardwalk
Paperbark Forest Boardwalk Agnes Water

We have written an easy guide on all the Best Things to See and Do in Agnes Water and 1770 to help you enjoy everything great about the region.

Workman’s Beach Campground Facilities

The Campground is a short track entry easily capable by 2wd.

Facilities include toilets and an outdoor cold shower. There are several Free gas BBQ’s and easy access throughout the campground to clean drinking water.

Aerial view of Workman's Beach Campground
Workman’s Beach Campground

The Workman’s Beach Campground is pet friendly and therefore dogs are allowed.

While we were staying there we had good Telstra coverage but no Vodafone.

5 Essentials – Camping Accessories

A good Tent or Swag is the first decision for going camping. We like the Coleman Tent from Tentworld or the Wanderer 7 Man Tent from BCF. For a Swag, we were so close to buying the Kings Double Swag from 4WD Supacentre.

We like our BCF Wanderers Camping Chair which gets a lot of use as we travel Australia.

No more lugging around a huge BBQ and gas bottle now that we have a brilliant Gasmate Dual Burner Butane Cooktop from Tentworld

A good Portable Fridge Freezer we have found to keep the beers cold and steaks frozen are the Kings 70 L Fridge Freezer in the budget range, the Waeco 75L Dual Zone Fridge Freezer or the ever popular and long lasting Engel 75L Fridge Freezer.

A good quality Hand Held UHF is ideal and I like this Uniden UH750 5 watt UHF for long range and quality. The 5 watt range will give you maximum distance, especially if you need help!

How do you book a site at Workman’s Beach Campground?

There are no bookings accepted. We contacted the Rangers via their Facebook page the day before we arrived and they were fantastic in responding and giving us confirmation of availability.

There are 38 campsites and it does get very busy. The Rangers collect the fees each day.

A Dump point is available at the 1770 SES Grounds only a 5 minutes drive away.

Workman's Beach Campground

Cost to stay is $9.20 per person for $25 for a family.
#Update 16/1/2020 – Cost is now $9.60 per person or $27 for a family.
#Update  17/11/2020 – Workman’s Beach Campground has been closed and may not re-open. The Rangers are no longer employed. The area is now a day use area only.

Our stay was 24th May to 2nd June 2018

How to get to the Campground

As you come in to Agnes Water on Round Hill Road, continue past the 1770 turnoff on the left and continue on what is now Springs Road.

Follow the road past the Information Centre until you see the sign and entrance to Workmans Beach Campground on the left just 1km further up the road.

Which popular attractions are close to Workman’s Beach?

Read more information about great low cost campgrounds around Oz.

Remember to read this for things to see and do in Agnes Water/1770

We can highly recommend the LARC Full Day Paradise Tour and the Lady Musgrave Island Tour.
