Camp Grounds

Congo Campground, Congo NSW

Congo Campground

Congo Campground is approx. 35kms south of Batemans Bay and just 330kms south of Sydney.

It is a bitumen road in from the north except some small sections of gravel road with minor corrugations. When exiting to the south it is a short drive on a gravel road through the National Park back to the Princess Highway.

The Campground has cold showers, toilet facilities and a basic camp kitchen. This is National Park and no pets and no fires are allowed. Weekends at Congo Campground can get very busy and there is no booking ahead, only turn up and hope a spot is available.

Camping is alongside the river although it is not connected to the ocean beach. The beach is fantastic and great for surfing and fishing. We saw dolphins go past and a guy catch a great feed of squid from a kayak just offshore.

We only stayed the one night but it’s a superb location and a fair price.

Cost to stay is $12 per adult. Children 5-15yo are $6 each per night.

Our stay was 21st February 2019.

Our camera equipment we use for all our photos and videos are:

Samsung Note 10 Plus Phone – https://ebay.to/2XOjXhi – Most of our photos are simply from our phones. The Samsung phone cameras are pretty insane. Our phones have 512gb storage in ours but the 256gb in this one is heaps. We have sourced this one which is approx $500 less than we paid for ours.

Canon 800d – https://ebay.to/2XQYnsk – the latest DSLR Canon 24mp camera, buy here to save.

Lenses – Canon 50mm lens – https://ebay.to/2yQwPed  This is the lens I use the least, ideal for still, close up shots.
Canon 24-105mm lens – https://ebay.to/3eCueUo This is my all round, everyday use, zoom lens. Amazing quality, great price.
Canon 70-300mm lens – https://ebay.to/2XlOZ0I – I use this one a lot for long range shots.
Sigma 10-20mm lens – https://ebay.to/2TWt0vA  – My wide angle lens for all my inside photos & video plus lots more, love this lens.

Our Go Pro 7 Hero Black – https://ebay.to/38wMc7V  –  is an awesome piece of equipment. I use this for all underwater, action video and some general use. Buy here brand new and great value.

Mavic Pro Platinum Drone – https://ebay.to/2ARPxTo  This is an absolute ripper of a drone. The Fly More Combo will provide you with everything you will need. I use this for all my aerial footage and this price is well below other retail stores.

Camp Grounds

Bega Showgrounds, Bega New South Wales

Bega Showgrounds

Bega Showgrounds are located in Bega, a town in the south of NSW and a central community to the Bega Valley and surrounding region.

Bega is also home to the renowned Bega Cheese.

Bega Cheese

From Bega, it is 25 minutes to the beautiful beachside town of Tathra on the NSW Coast and inland it is approx. a 2 hour drive up to Jindabyne, Thredbo and Mount Kosciusko.

The Bega Showgrounds provides excellent camping with 2 toilet blocks as well as showers, laundry and there is a dump point.

5 Essentials – Camping Accessories

A good Tent or Swag is the first decision for going camping. We like the Coleman Tent from Tentworld or the Wanderer 7 Man Tent from BCF. For a Swag, we were so close to buying the Kings Double Swag from 4WD Supacentre.

We like our BCF Wanderers Camping Chair which gets a lot of use as we travel Australia.

No more lugging around a huge BBQ and gas bottle now that we have a brilliant Gasmate Dual Burner Butane Cooktop from Tentworld

A good Portable Fridge Freezer we have found to keep the beers cold and steaks frozen are the Kings 70 L Fridge Freezer in the budget range, the Waeco 75L Dual Zone Fridge Freezer or the ever popular and long lasting Engel 75L Fridge Freezer.

A good quality Hand Held UHF is ideal and I like this Uniden UH750 5 watt UHF for long range and quality. The 5 watt range will give you maximum distance, especially if you need help!

The laundry is just $2.50 per load. The machines are not coin operated, you simply place your money into an envelope prior to use.

Some sites can be uneven where the grounds are sloping, you may need to level up.

The Showground is only a 5 minute walk to the centre of Bega. The Bega Memorial Swimming Pool complex is directly next door.

Bega Showgrounds Campground

It is pet friendly and therefore dogs are allowed. I had good phone coverage with both Telstra and Vodafone.

Cost to stay is $25 per night for power and water for 2 adults.

Our stay was 7-9th March 2019.

Camp Grounds

Wilton Park, Cuttagee New South Wales

Wilton Park is just 5 mins south from the town of Bermagui in southern NSW.

This great camping area is along the Tathra-Bermagui Rd and is part of an owners property.

Once you have called ahead and spoken to the owner it’s a simple case of arriving and setting up where you can find a space.

*Unfortunately the Owner has now closed Wilton Park, it is no longer open!!

Campfire at Wilton Park

Most of the area is generally sloping so you will likely need to level out. There are fire pits around the grounds so if you’d like a fire try to set up near to one.

There is a drop toilet on site but no other facilities. Water is available at the Information Centre back in the town of Bermagui.

Wilton Park is pet friendly and therefore dogs are allowed. Generators are also allowed.

Things to See and Do in and around Cuttagee and Bermagui

The Blue Pool

When visiting Bermagui and Cuttagee area, The Blue Pool is a must visit. It is a naturally fed ocean pool and is aptly named for the blue coloured water. Besides swimming you can also go snorkeling in the pool. Just beware of the waves as they crash over the rocks into the pool at times.

Bermagui Blue Pool

Bruce Steer Ocean Swimming Pool

Another great swimming spot in Bermagui is the Bruce Steer Ocean Swimming Pool which is on the side of the Harbour just below Bermagui Point. The pool is naturally fed from the ocean so it is a saltwater pool but is calm and safe for swimming with a net at the end open to the ocean.

Bruce Steer Ocean Swimming Pool

Fishermen’s Wharf

Fishermen’s Wharf is a great spot if you like fresh seafood. There is also an awesome ice cream shop which we visited a number of times! Bermagui Fishermen’s Co-Operative is one of the major suppliers of seafood for the Sydney Fish Market. Flathead, Snapper, Tuna, Swordfish and Shark are just some of the types of fish caught in this area.

The original Bermagui Fishermen’s Co-Operative operated from 1948 until 1975. The old Co-Op building was demolished and the current Fishermen’s Wharf complex was established and became home to the $2billion industry in 2009.

Camel Rock

Camel Rock in Wallaga Lake just north of Bermagui is among the oldest rocks in New South Wales. This rock formation was created by underwater avalanches around 450 million years ago and bears a strong resemblance to a camel. You can view Camel Rock from the beach or the Camel Rock Viewing Platform.

Also call into the Camel Rock Brewery Bar and Grill while you are in the area.

Michael Lerner Lookout

The Michael Lerner Lookout offers awesome views of the ocean and rugged coastline. The lookout is named after Michael Lerner who holds the record for hooking and landing two Black Marlin at the one time.

Adventurers Diary

Dalmeny Campground, Dalmeny NSW

Dalmeny

The Dalmeny Campground is perfectly located overlooking spectacular Dalmeny Beach.

Dalmeny is just 5 mins from the beautiful town of Narooma on the south NSW coast. The campground is located on a hilltop of sloping grounds so most sites are not level but they do provide spectacular views.

It is pet friendly and there are toilets, showers, laundry and a dump point available.

There is an IGA and fuel station across the road. There’s also a great Fish and Chips shop.

Fire pits are available for hire along with firewood.

The beach is excellent for swimming, surfing and fishing and you’ll even spot the resident Emu’s that often wander the beach.

We had good Telstra coverage and I also had 1 bar of Vodafone network.

We recommend the Tour to Montague Island called Montague Island Tours with Wazza. It was a great day out, swimming with seals and enjoying the tour of the island.

Cost to stay is $33 per night for 2 adults for powered site. Children 5-16yo are $6 each per night.
* Updated 22/1/2020 Prices vary throughout the year depending on season. Off peak is $29, Shoulder season is $34 and Peak season is $52 a night.

Check the website for more details. https://dalmenycampground.com.au/rates/

Also look for Stay 7 pay 6 nights deal.

Our stay was 22nd February and 28th February to 6th March 2019.
