4 Way Tap Handle

4 Way Tap Handle

Water is one of the necessities of life and on the road it can create a whole new challenge.

Unlike home, you can’t just turn on the tap for an endless supply of fresh drinking water.

You will be limited in the capacity you can carry and if you like to Free camp a lot and be off grid you’re going to need access to water at some stage.

In most cases there is somewhere nearby where water is available easily. In other places it might be less easy but usually Information Centres and Councils provide water for Free or very low cost. To access this water you might need a tap handle as they are sometimes removed because of vandalism and people leaving the water running.

The 4 way brass tap handle is a must for the tool kit when traveling around Australia. This will give you access to water in places you would not have otherwise been able to. It is especially useful if you do a lot of free camping and are not able to access water through Caravan Parks and Campgrounds.

It’s the best few bucks you will spend πŸ™‚

You can purchase a 4 way tap handle for under $20 from ebay.

We keep ours in the glove box and have used it heaps of times as we travel Oz.

When you are on the road full time and living within a strict budget then Free and Low Cost accommodation is vital and therefore you are unlikely to have consistent easy access to water. You still need it though.

Photography and Socials

Our camera equipment we use for all of our photos and videos are:

Samsung Note 10 Plus Phone – http://ebay.us/9vMXEH – Most of our photos are simply from our phones. The Samsung phone cameras are pretty insane. Our phones have 512gb storage in ours but the 256gb in this one is heaps. We have sourced this one which is approx $500 less than we paid for ours.

Canon 800d – https://ebay.to/2XQYnsk – the latest DSLR Canon 24mp camera, buy here to save.

Lenses

Canon 50mm lens – https://ebay.to/3nx5pyGΒ  This is the lens I use the least, ideal for still, close up shots.
Canon 24-105mm lens – https://ebay.us/br9MeO This is my all round, everyday use, zoom lens. Amazing quality, great price.
Canon 70-300mm lens – https://ebay.to/33xYeht – I use this one a lot for long range shots.
Sigma 10-20mm lens – http://ebay.us/zWvfuIΒ  – My wide angle lens for all my inside photos & video plus lots more, love this lens.

Our Go Pro 9 Hero Black – https://ebay.us/6CQOVCΒ  –  is an awesome piece of equipment. I use this for all underwater, action video and some general use. Buy here brand new and great value.

Mavic Pro Platinum Drone – https://ebay.to/2ARPxToΒ  This is an absolute ripper of a drone. The Fly More Combo will provide you with everything you will need. I use this for all my aerial footage and this price is well below other retail stores.

15amp to 10amp Adaptor – Ampfibian

15amp to 10amp adaptor

One of our first essential accessories we purchased for our Motorhome was an Australian made Ampfibian 15amp to 10amp Waterproof Safety Adaptor to allow us to plug our newly purchased RV into a power socket at home.

A very common question we see is “How can I plug my caravan into my house”.

Our Motorhome, like most Caravans and RVs, runs on 15amp power. Our homes are 10amp with a different sized earth pin.

What is 15amp power?

15amp is a heavier duty wire then you’re normal household 10amp and it comes with a larger earth pin to help carry the extra load.

Therefore a 15amp cable will not connect in to a 10amp socket.

In the video we explain how we use a safety adaptor to connect our 15amp power source into 10amp, your normal household power point, using an easy to purchase waterproof adaptor.

By using the Adaptor we can insert the 15amp plug into the socket which converts it from 10amp allowing us to then plug into normal household mains power (10amp/ 240v).

Ampfibian 15amp to 10amp adaptor

Why do we need the 15amp to 10amp Safety Adaptor?

We use it mostly when we have generously been offered places to stay at people’s property.

Family and friends around Australia have offered for us to stay with them and with the use of our adaptor we have been able to plug in to their electricity source with our 15amp power cable to their 10amp socket.

What 15amp to 10amp adaptor do we use?

We use our Ampfibian 15amp to 10amp adaptor regularly and have had it for over 5 years and it still works perfectly.

It is completely weather proof so even if it rains there are no issues.

Are there cheaper versions?

Yes, there are and they might be perfect for you. The RV Plus Ampfibian is more compact in size, also waterproof and designed for Caravan and RV use.

You can search and compare prices here.

We have read online where people have claimed there is no difference between 15a and 10a and have made alterations to their plug so they don’t have to buy an adaptor.

5 Essentials – Outside RV Accessories

  1. To plug your RV with standard 15amp in to standard residential 10amp power source you will need a converter. We love our waterproof Ampfibian and after over 4 years it’s still perfect.
  2. Most people carry a Generator for back up power. 4wd Supacentre has a good low cost and popular generator while the Yamaha 2000w is a robust yet quiet excellent performer.
  3. A 20m 15amp Power Lead will ensure you reach your power source in Caravan Parks and Campgrounds.
  4. You will want a good blue Drinking Water Hose. Your typical green garden hose is not suitable for drinking from.
  5. A 4 way tap handle will help you find water whenever you need it
!5amp to 10amp adaptor

I’m no electrician but my research says differently. It will very likely to void any warranty to begin with, let alone possibly cause a fire.

Keep it safe, use an Ampfibian so you will have no issues.

You can view the details of one here and find it at a great price, the Ampfibian 15A to 10A Adaptor with RCD Protection

Our Lead Safety Box

Lead Safety Box

While discussing lead connections we also use this great Lead Safety Box.

This is where we have a 15amp power point so no need to convert the power but there’s still a connection of two leads outside in all weather.

The Lead Safety Box keeps the connected power leads out of the weather, especially rain, showers or overnight dew.

We use the red Excalibur model and it’s been perfect for us.

You can order one from Ebay for as little as $10-15.

National Seniors Card

National Seniors Card

The National Seniors Card is a great budget saver for anyone over 50yo, even if you’re not traveling.

It’s amazing how many people over 50 don’t know about it!!

This is not the Government issued Seniors Card provided for free to those aged 60 (conditions apply) or 65 or more.

National Seniors Card

The National Seniors Card is a Not For Profit organisation which was established in 1976 and works with Governments to provide greater benefits for older Aussies.

It is a membership card which you pay to be a member. Maximum cost is $45 for one person or $75 for a couple for a year.

National Seniors Card Comments
National Seniors Card Savings

Why are we telling you about the National Seniors Card?

We were in Western Australia a few months into our adventures back in 2016 and we met a couple who were similar to our age, early 50’s at the time, and they told us about this National Seniors Card.

Adele looked in to it and we became members. Ever since then we have been using it and saving money as we travel.

We simply want to let you know about it.

National Seniors Card Gift
Save on insurances

As we disclose below, if you mention us we get a $10 referral fee. Now not sure about you but $10 isn’t a lot of money. Little bits help but honestly, if you’d like to mention us that would be great and if not that’s fine too.

The important thing is that you’re aware of the card and can access the benefits it offers.

Save on tours and attractions
Ask when doing tours

Where do we use it?

Almost everywhere we go we ask if they take the National Seniors Card.

You can bundles on insurance for your House and Contents, Car, Caravan, Boat and more.
Others tell us they use it when going to the Movies.

We use them at Caravan Parks, going on tours or rides, attractions and our RACQ membership.

Ferry crossing have occasionally accepted our National Seniors cards. Usually it would be the bigger Ferry companies.

Some Cafes, Golf Clubs and Restaurants will take the card and provide a discount.

We never go to Maccas but many have reported using their National Seniors Card there.

To get a benefit from your card you just have to ask “do you take National Seniors Card”. Some places say yes and some say no.

Just keep asking.

7 Essentials – Tours to Experience

  1. Reefsleep in the Whitsundays is an amazing adventure. Spend the night on a pontoon sleeping in a swag on Hardy’s Reef in the Great Barrier Reef
  2. The Ocean Rafting tour from Airlie Beach is a truly fun day out. They took us to the best snorkeling places and the entire day was amazing
  3. For the best Full Day Island tour in Cairns we recommend the Fitzroy Island tour
  4. The Atlantic Clipper Full Day Sail is another fun and exciting experience in the Whitsundays. We can highly recommend doing this tour
  5. If you are on the East Coast, you can swim with Humpback Whales on the Sunshine Coast. The tour leaves from Mooloolaba
  6. Swimming with Whale Sharks at Exmouth is also extremely popular and a great day out with the team from Eco Adventures on Lattitude 22
  7. One of Tasmania’s best tours is the Tasman Island Cruise with Pennicott Wilderness Journeys out of Port Arthur. Three hours of cruising the highest sea cliffs in the Southern Hemisphere and enjoying an up close look at hundreds of seals as well as dolphins and birdlife.
