Red Rock Caravan Park, NSW

Red Rock

Our accommodation stay at stunning Red Rock in NSW was at the Reflections Holiday Parks Red Rock located with the beach on one side and beautiful Corindi River on the other.

This is a fabulous Caravan park which is very reasonably priced and also provides a great cafe and small shop.

Red Rock is located approximately 40kms north of Coffs Harbour in NSW and just a few minutes from Corindi Beach.

Red Rock Sunken 4WD

The Corindi River was also the location where we found the sunken Landcruiser 4wd in the river and our subsequent story went viral and saw us interviewed on ABC Macquarie radio.

Plus, the story reached as far as the UK when our video was published in the Daily Mail Online. The story also featured in the Daily Examiner.

Red Rock Caravan Park Amenities

There’s no other camping options on the Corindi River in Red Rock but you wouldn’t want to stay anywhere else, the Red Rock Caravan Park has everything for you.

It’s also one of our favourite parks around Oz.

The Park has several amenities blocks which are modern and clean.

There is a great camp kitchen providing full kitchen facilities including BBQ’s, stoves, microwave, fridge and TV.

There are laundries and a dump point at the Red Rock Caravan Park.

Water is available from the rainwater tanks in the park. The taps around the sites are bore water however and not suitable for drinking. We suggest bringing water with you that you will need for your stay.

Read about: why the town of Red Rock fought against the Coffs Harbour City Council attempts to connect the township to town water and sewerage. Basically the small number of local residents feel they don’t need the associated costs of these services.

We had good Telstra and Vodafone coverage during our stay and the park has Free Wifi.

There is also Telstra Air available free for Telstra customers from the phone box just next to the park.

Are pets allowed at the Caravan Park?

The Caravan Park at Red Rock is pet friendly during off peak season only and dog washing facilities are available. Talk to the managers about any other conditions regarding staying with your pet.

Sunrise from the beach is a spectacular experience. This is a stunning location to watch a new day dawn.

From Red Rock you can easily view North West Solitary Island approximately 10-15kms from the coastline.

The Solitary Islands Group are made up primarily of 5 islands over 75 kms and form the Solitary Islands Marine Park.

5 Essentials – 4WD Accessories

  1. 4WD Recovery Tracks will get you out of most situations, especially in sand. We bought a pair of these generic branded tracks that have worked well whilst other brands include the Australian made TRED or the Australian Designed and made MAXTRAX 4wd Recovery Tracks.
  2. For our 4WD we went with this EDECOA 1500 3000w Pure Sine Wave Inverter which has been excellent value and works great.
  3. I’m a massive fan of my Victron IP65 15a Battery Charger. I use it often to give batteries a boost and it really is an essential part of my tool kit.
  4. When camping my Kings 200w Solar Blanket gets a lot of use and works really well. Only downside is it doesn’t work with Lithium batteries.
  5. Brass Tyre Deflators are a fast and easy way to lower your tyre pressure to your desired level. Perfect for when you are hitting the beach.

Caravan Parks

Rollingstone Caravan Park, Rollingstone Qld

Big 4 Rollingstone

The beachside Rollingstone Caravan Park is a park we had on our map before leaving home.

We had heard lots of great reviews about it and decided we needed to see it for ourselves.

Rollingstone is a quiet little regional town and has just one store operating as a combined grocery store, Post Office and fuel station.

Originally Rollingstone was named Armidale but the name was changed to avoid confusion with the town of the same name in New South Wales.

Fabulous resort style pool at the Rollingstone Caravan Park
Rollingstone Caravan Park Resort style pool

There were not many people here during our stay however the southerners were making their way up for winter and it wasn’t long before the park would be busy.

Rollingstone Accommodation is available along the oceanfront or beside the lakes in either cabins and villas or powered and unpowered sites for caravans and motorhomes.

The sites are large and easy to navigate for either a Caravan or big Motorhome.

Rollingstone Caravan Park Facilities

The amenities have the biggest showers we’ve seen so far and are very modern and clean and there is a big resort style pool with a cave and waterfall.

Lakes at Rollingstone Beach Caravan Park

We had good phone coverage with Telstra.

There are 3 Dams full with Barrimundi which you can catch and release. A BMX track and basketball court is also onsite.

A great camp kitchen is available plus there’s a Cafe & Cocktail Bar and outdoor movies.

5 Essentials – Outside RV Accessories

  1. To plug your RV with standard 15amp in to standard residential 10amp power source you will need a converter. We love our waterproof Ampfibian and after over 4 years it’s still perfect.
  2. Most people carry a Generator for back up power. 4wd Supacentre has a good low cost and popular generator while the Yamaha 2000w is a robust yet quiet excellent performer.
  3. A 20m 15amp Power Lead will ensure you reach your power source in Caravan Parks and Campgrounds.
  4. You will want a good blue Drinking Water Hose. Your typical green garden hose is not suitable for drinking from.
  5. A 4 way tap handle will help you find water whenever you need it

About Kalgoorlie

A few decades ago Kalgoorlie was a wild west town of single miners, working hard, playing hard and making a lot of money.

Since Gold was found in 1893, mining has been a major industry in the town and it still continues today.

The Super Pit, officially named the Fimiston Open Pit, is one of the World’s Largest Open Cut Gold mines and was Australia’s largest until 2016.

Kalgoorlie was also known for it’s brothels where women too would arrive to make fast money working at the Bordello’s in Hay Street.

Historic old buildings in Kalgoorlie

The town had a reputation as the Wild West, a place that was tough and lawless and the money and women gave the town a reputation that has only begun to change in recent years.

The population of Kalgoorlie is approximately 28,700 people.

Weather in Kalgoorlie is generally very dry with very hot summers and a cold winter.

The best time to visit is March to May or August to December.

Caravan Parks

Esperance Caravan Park, Western Australia

We arrived in town looking for a pet friendly Esperance Caravan Park and after a bad experience elsewhere we found the Pine Grove Holiday Park.

This was the Esperance Caravan Park we were looking for and we ended up really enjoying our stay.

The on-site Managers were super friendly and helped with some great advice about what to do around the region.

Our Esperance Caravan Park Campsiste

About Esperance

Esperance is located on the southern coastline of Western Australia, 713 kms from the capital city of Perth.

The towns reputation has been built on the truly spectacular beaches in the region.

Tourism during the summer months ensures the Esperance Caravan Parks are very busy and finding accommodation can be a challenge.

The drive from Albany east to Esperance is approximately 5 hours.

From Esperance north to Norseman it is a 2 hour drive of about 200 kms before the long 1000 km drive east across the Nullarbor to South Australia.

Esperance Weather

We were fortunate to have fairly good weather during our stay in Esperance.

It was early December and the temperature was still cool but it wasn’t windy and didn’t rain.

The weather in Esperance is often subjected to cold Antarctic winds and cool temps but it can get very warm during the summer months.

Esperance Caravan Park Pool

All about the Pine Grove Holiday Park

We considered this Esperance Caravan Park to be fantastic value.

It’s an older park with basic facilities but it was clean throughout our stay.

There’s a one way road around the Pine Grove Holiday Park with the powered sites to the front of the park and unpowered sites down the back.

The park includes a swimming Pool and a small camp kitchen with BBQ’s next to it.

Also there is a small recreation room available for a bit of fun.

Large sites - Esperance Caravan Park

Is the Esperance Caravan Park Pet Friendly?

Dogs are allowed at this Esperance Caravan Park however there may be some restrictions on which dogs are permitted.

They may restrict large dogs however and the website states that rottweilers and pit bull terriers are not allowed.

You should let the staff know you have a dog when you book your site and discuss with them about your pet.

Read more: Travelling Australia with our dog MACKS

Our preferrred Esperance Caravan Park - Pine Grove Holiday Park

The sites are larger than the other Esperance Caravan Parks providing a bit more space than many other parks.

There’s a large choice of ensuite sites too if you would prefer one.

There’s a children’s playground and a small recreation room to entertain the kids for awhile.

The park offers gas bottle refills or you can choose to swap your gas bottle if preferred.

There is a laundry on site however there is no dump point. A public dump point is located close by.

The park can get some road noise during the day but by night it is mostly quiet.

If road noise bothers you, you can stay in the unpowered section at the back away from the road which is really good value.

We liked that this park as it was cheaper than the other Esperance Caravan Parks and the older facilities didn’t bother us.

The Pine Grove Holiday Park is just a short 5 minute drive to the local beaches and the town centre.

There is Free Wifi albeit limited at 100 megabytes.

We had good phone coverage with the Telstra network during our stay.

The onsite managers at the Pine Grove Holiday Park were super friendly during our stay but they have moved on now.

Cost to Stay at this Esperance Caravan Park

Cost to stay is $38 powered for 2 adults
Unpowered sites are $20 a night
Ensuite sites are also available

Our stay was 5-7th December 2016

5 Essentials – Camera Equipment

The Mavic Pro 2 will provide you with everything you will need for all of your aerial footage

Our Go Pro 9 Hero Black – https://ebay.us/6CQOVC  –  is an awesome piece of equipment. I use this for all underwater, action video and some general use. Buy here brand new and great value.nd some general use.

We both love our Samsung Phones. Most of our photos are simply from our Samsung Phones. Now there’s the new Samsung s21 out and we have friends and our son who have one and they look insane for photography. If you’re looking for a new phone for your road trip I’d be going for this.

The distances you can shoot with the Camera – Nikon P1000 are simply amazing. It has an incredible optical and digital zoom!

We use our HP Sphere 360 Laptop with 8th Generation Intel Core i7 processor for our everyday use and for editing our photos

Photography and Socials

Our camera equipment we use for all our photos and videos are:

Samsung Note 10 Plus Phone – http://ebay.us/9vMXEH – Most of our photos are simply from our phones. The Samsung phone cameras are pretty insane. Our phones have 512gb storage in ours but the 256gb in this one is heaps.

Samsung s21 Phonehttps://ebay.us/QAdwva – this looks an insane camera within a phone. We have friends and our son who own one and it seems quite extraordinary with their camera quality. If you’re after a new phone this is what I’d be looking at.

Canon 800dhttps://ebay.us/Q0UV1z – the latest DSLR Canon 24mp camera, buy here to save.

Nikon Coolpix p1000https://ebay.to/37cORUV – We have the Nikon P900 and this is the new model. The zoom lens is unbelievable and so awesome when travelling and you want to capture photos from a distance.

Lenses

Canon 50mm lens – https://ebay.to/3nx5pyG  This is the lens I use the least, ideal for still, close up shots.
Canon 24-105mm lenshttps://ebay.us/br9MeO – This is my all round, everyday use, zoom lens. Amazing quality, great price.
Canon 70-300mm lens – https://ebay.to/33xYeht – I use this one a lot for long range shots.
Sigma 10-20mm lenshttp://ebay.us/zWvfuI  – My wide angle lens for all my inside photos & video plus lots more, love this lens.

Our Go Pro 9 Hero Black – https://ebay.us/6CQOVC  –  is an awesome piece of equipment. I use this for all underwater, action video and some general use. Buy here brand new and great value.

Mavic Pro Platinum Drone – https://ebay.to/2ARPxTo  This is an absolute ripper of a drone. The Fly More Combo will provide you with everything you will need. I use this for all my aerial footage and this price is well below other retail stores.
