Caravan Parks
Rainbow Beach Holiday Village, Rainbow Beach

Rainbow Beach is on the very northern tip of the Sunshine Coast in Queensland and is a two and a half hour drive north from Brisbane.
It offers absolutely pristine beaches with towering coloured sand cliffs overlooking the ocean.
There are amazing sand blows including Carlo Sand Blow which you can climb for the most incredible views from the top.

Rainbow Beach is also well known as the gateway to the incredible world renowned Fraser Island.

Rainbow Beach Camping
For accommodation at Rainbow Beach we chose to stay at the Rainbow Beach Holiday Village which is the closest Caravan Park and camping area to the beach.
The Rainbow Beach Holiday Village is a Top Tourist park and offers 10% discount for Top Tourist members.

Rainbow Beach Holiday Village Facilities
The park has a beautiful pool, perfect if the beach is crowded or too windy.
The Caravan Park Campground also has BBQ areas, good amenities including toilets and showers and of course powered sites, water and bins.
A dump point is also on site.
Are Pets Allowed?
The park is pet friendly and therefore dogs are allowed. We had MACKS with us during our first stay at Rainbow Beach Holiday Village.

During our stays we had good coverage with both Telstra and Vodafone networks and our internet was fine. The Caravan Park also has Free WiFi available.
The sites at the front of the park are great as they offer ocean views. All you need to do then is cross the road and you are minutes away from the beach.
To get in to some sites the Caravan Park will bring the ‘Marriage Saver’ tractor and organise your RV to go on to your site.
You’ll see why Rainbow Beach is rated as one of our Best Beaches in Australia!

Can you drive on the Beach?
To drive on the beaches at Rainbow Beach you will need a Vehicle Permit which are available from the Queensland Parks and Forest. The cost is:
- $13.40 for 1 day if booked online or $20.25 if not booked online
- For 1 week or less the cost is $34.10
- For 1 month the Vehicle Permit cost is $53.65
- More than 1 month up to 1 year the cost is $270
Driving the beaches around Rainbow Beach can be incredibly hazardous and should always be taken with great care. Never try to bypass the rocks at Rainbow Beach on an incoming tide when the tide isn’t low.

There are numerous photo boards and Facebook pages dedicated to the many who have tried and failed to drive the beaches at the wrong times and destroyed their vehicles.
The Rainbow Beach Holiday Village was our very first stop on our first day travelling Australia back in Feb 2016.

When the weather is perfect Rainbow Beach is as amazing as any other small town in the country.
Cost to stay is now $50 for a ocean view powered site for 2 people in off peak season. Extra persons are $10 per night.
Our stay was 1st – 3rd Feb 2016 and 26th April to 1st May 2018.

5 Essentials – 4WD Accessories
- 4WD Recovery Tracks will get you out of most situations, especially in sand. We bought a pair of these generic branded tracks that have worked well whilst other brands include the Australian made TRED or the Australian Designed and made MAXTRAX 4wd Recovery Tracks.
- For our 4WD we went with this EDECOA 1500 3000w Pure Sine Wave Inverter which has been excellent value and works great.
- I’m a massive fan of my Victron IP65 15a Battery Charger. I use it often to give batteries a boost and it really is an essential part of my tool kit.
- When camping my Kings 200w Solar Blanket gets a lot of use and works really well. Only downside is it doesn’t work with Lithium batteries.
- Brass Tyre Deflators are a fast and easy way to lower your tyre pressure to your desired level. Perfect for when you are hitting the beach.

What else is there to do at Rainbow Beach
Tin Can Bay Dolphins
Tin Can Bay is approximately half an hour drive from Rainbow Beach and offers a fantastic opportunity to see wild dolphins.
While visiting the region take the chance to Feed the Dolphins at Tin Can Bay.
We believe this is the best spot to experience wild dolphins in the country.

Visit Fraser Island
We have spent a lot of time on Fraser Island over many years and we have written 2 lengthy detailed articles to help everyone get the best out of their time on the island.

Go 4WDing through the Great Sandy National Park
Next to Rainbow Beach is the amazing Great Sandy National Park with fantastic 4WD tracks taking you to so many wonderful places to explore.
Jump in your 4WD and discover everything there is to see in this truly amazing region.

Double Island Point and Lighthouse
One of the locations you can find from the Great Sandy National Park is to come out at the beach at Double Island Point and Teewah Beach.
Here you can discover the Double Island Point Lighthouse and make your way to a beautiful pristine bay where you can swim and fish and enjoy the most stunning beach location with the coloured sand cliffs as a backdrop.
You may even see the last remains of the Cherry Venture shipwreck along Teewah Beach which are sometimes still visible depending on beach erosion.

Inskip Point
North of Rainbow Beach is a number of great campground spots nearby to the barge landing point to Fraser Island which is Inskip Point.
This is another magic spot to swim and fish while overlooking the Worlds Largest Sand Island.
Where to eat

Surf Life Saving Club
The Rainbow Beach Surf Life Saving Club is a great spot to stop for a drink and a meal.
Overlooking the magnificent ocean waters you can enjoy a great cold drink and have a fantastic lunch or dinner.
We stopped in for a meal and enjoyed fantastic views overlooking the beach.
Rainbow Beach Hotel
The Rainbow Beach Hotel is a great spot to stop and enjoy drinks and a meal.
They do great Pizzas, Pasta and Steaks and there’s plenty of excellent beers on tap and a great range of drinks at the bar.
Another great feature of the hotel is that it’s pet friendly. You can ask at the bar for water for your dog and outside is an area purposely designed for your dog to rest in the shade.
The Pub is directly outside the Rainbow Beach Holiday Village making it a very easy stroll back if you’ve had a couple of beverages.
Rainbow Beach Bakery
Whenever we head to Fraser Island the Rainbow Beach Bakery is our stopover point for a bite to eat before heading to Inskip Point to catch the Ferry over to the island.
We have been here so many times and each time it’s been excellent. I usually go for the more healthier options given I’ve been driving a few hours already and have a few more still to go.
So I normally grab a chicken and salad roll but we have certainly had the pies and sausage rolls and they are great.
I can also vouch for the Caramel Tart and Adele has always enjoyed the cream donuts.
The Rainbow Beach Bakery is in the main street among the strip of shops between the Butcher and Pharmacy.

Crème de la Crème
There’s nothing more Aussie then ice creams at the beach and Rainbow Beach is no different.
For Ice Creams and Gelato here you can’t go past Crème de la Crème.
They have a delicious range and we sure tried quite a few during each stay we’ve had a Rainbow.

Caravan Parks
Great value Lake Macquarie Caravan Park NSW

The Ingenia Holidays Big 4 Lake Macquarie Caravan Park in Mannering Park is in a fantastic location and is a really well priced Caravan Park.
Located at the northern end of the NSW Central Coast, we based ourselves here while we discovered this incredible region including Caves Beach, Umina and Terrigal.
When looking for Lake Macquarie Caravan Parks for accommodation you really should look at this one, it’s beautifully set over the water, lots of open space and fantastic value for money.
The Lake Macquarie Big 4 sits on the southern end of the Lake Macquarie providing tranquil water views right on the doorstep making it one of the best Central Coast Caravan Parks.
Boasting as the largest coastal salt water lagoon in Australia, Lake Macquarie is ideal for fishing and water sports.

The Big 4 Lake Macquarie offers a quiet secluded place stay but at the same time is close to town.
This Lake Macquarie Caravan Park has good, secure, gated entry and comes with a big pool, great camp kitchen, children’s playground, communal BBQs plus a jumping pillow.
There are all the facilities you would normally expect with powered sites, water, bins and good amenities.
The Dump Point was harder to find, it is beside the toilet block and has an aluminum lid not the blue one you would often see. There were no clear identifying signs to it at the time.
The sites at the Lake Macquarie Big 4 were all a good size and had ample space. We were delighted with our grassy waterfront site.

Are the Lake Macquarie Caravan Parks Pet Friendly?
The Big 4 Lake Macquarie Caravan Park is a Pet Friendly park however it is seasonal.
Although Lake Macquarie pet friendly accommodation is on offer, pets are at the Park Manager’s discretion therefore check with staff first at the time of booking and especially during peak periods.
We had good Telstra and Vodafone coverage at the Big 4 Lake Macquarie Caravan Park Mannering Park.

After merging onto Mandalong Road/B53, continue along Mandalaong Road through the roundabout for just over 1km.
At the next roundabout, take the third exit onto Wyee Road and follow for 5kms. Then take the 1st exit at the roundabout onto Ruttleys Road. Continue for 6.2kms.
Turn left onto Vales Road, then right onto Monterey Avenue which is partially restricted. In 220metres you will come to the Ingenia Holidays Big 4 Lake Macquarie Caravan Park.
5 Essentials – Ryobi Tools for Traveling
- A chainsaw certainly is an essential tool while traveling especially when camping and 4WDing. Perfect for cutting up wood for the campfire and ideal for clearing tracks of fallen branches when 4WDing. I really like the Ryobi Chainsaw and will be looking to buy one very soon to match all of my other Ryobi tools.
- The Ryobi Cordless Hand Vacuum has been super handy for the motorhome while traveling and now it is also great to use in our 4WD.
- Even prior to traveling, I have always used a Ryobi Cordless Drill. They are an essential tool for use at home and while on the road.
- We have had heaps of use from our Ryobi 18v Area Light. It’s great for fishing, camping and outdoor entertaining and even when we want to save power at night while free camping. Just charge it up the next day when you have solar.
- There are so many uses for our Ryobi Blower while traveling. Blowing the leaves off the top of the slideout before bringing it in, accelerating the campfire, clearing away any dirt, grass or sand from around your campsite.

Things to see and do in and around the Big 4 Lake Macquarie Caravan Park
Caves Beach
The sea caves at the aptly named Caves Beach on the Swansea Peninsula are absolutely amazing and we thoroughly enjoyed exploring the many caves and rock pools.
Be sure to time your visit to this magical spot at low tide as this is the only time you can access the caves at the southern end of the beach.
Caves Beach is just 25kms from the Big 4 Lake Macquarie Caravan Park and is definitely a ‘must see’!

Catherine Hill Bay Beach
Catherine Hill Bay is a former coal mining town and now a State Heritage Listed historic mining village.
19th Century miner’s cottages still stand in the sleepy township of Catherine Hill Bay and mark the oldest continuous settlement in city of Lake Macquarie.
The beautiful Catherine Hill Bay beach is a popular spot for swimming, surfing and fishing and at the end of the beach stands the iconic former coal loading jetty now used for walking and fishing.

Umina
Umina, another coastal village on the Central Coast has a long sandy beach is ideal for swimming and surfing. This patrolled beach is very popular for families.
We did a beach hop down the Central Coast starting at Umina and what the locals call the Peninsula and working our way back up.
It is just over 63kms from the Big 4 Lake Macquarie Caravan Park.

Terrigal
Terrigal was another beach we visited on our beach hop along the Central Coast. We made it our lunch stop and enjoyed the ocean views while we ate.
Lined with Norfolk Pines, the beach and headland is beautiful and definitely worth exploring.
The views from The Skillion Lookout are stunning and during migration season it is a great vantage point to spot whales.
Terrigal is very popular for recreational fishing off the beach or you can try your luck hooking a marlin on a game fishing charter.

Caravan Parks
Ningaloo Coral Bay Caravan Park, Coral Bay WA

We arrived in Coral Bay looking for accommodation and chose to stay at Ningaloo Coral Bay Caravan Park.
Coral Bay is a stunning seaside town in Western Australia approximately 134 kms south of Exmouth.
The small seaside settlement is located just metres from Ningaloo Reef in the stunning calm waters of Bill’s Bay.
There are lots of tracks leading away from Coral Bay worth exploring if you have 4wd. Mauds Landing Beach is just past the airport and is a stunning beach worth seeing.
Further south there are amazing places to drive and enjoy secluded beaches where Ningaloo Reef continues to be just metres from the shore.

Since our stay the owners have changed the name of the Bayview Caravan Park to it’s current new name Ningaloo Coral Bay Caravan Park.
From the Ningaloo Coral Bay Caravan Park it is an easy stroll to the beach where you can swim and snorkel the amazing Ningaloo Reef amongst the coral and fish that are within wading distance from the shore.
Bring as much good drinking water with you while camping at Ningaloo Coral Bay. All of the towns water is bore water and there is no hooking up to drinking water during your stay.
Your stay does allow you 20L of fresh water however any further water is $1 for 10 Litres. There are taps for filling containers of drinking water throughout the park.

Table of Contents
Ningaloo Coral Bay Caravan Park Facilities
A swimming pool is onsite and there is a big kids playground with a jumping castle and other fun things for the children to do.
There are 2 amenities blocks. The water in the showers can sometimes feel salty as it uses the bore water.

The town of Coral Bay is a short walk down one main street.
There’s a Shopping Village opposite the Ningaloo Coral Bay Caravan Park with a Foodworks store, Bill’s Bar is next door to it, there’s a cafe, Ningaloo Reef Resort and not too much else.
Coral Bay is a small and fairly remote location, a large part of it’s charm.

Is the Ningaloo Coral Bay Caravan Park Pet Friendly?
The Caravan Park is pet friendly and therefore dogs are permitted however there is a charge of $2 per day for dogs which they charged us to stay with MACKS.
Cost to stay at the Ningaloo Coral Bay Caravan Park is $54 for a powered site during peak season for 2 adults.
Our stay was 20-21st September 2016.

Go on a Quad bike adventure around the dunes and beaches of Coral Bay.
Head down numerous bush tracks and see lots of local wildlife and you may also witness turtles and dolphins in the stunning bays of Ningaloo Reef.
Stop and go snorkelling during your self drive ATV tour of this pristine region.

Reef Fishing
There are a couple of Reef Fishing charters in Coral Bay.
We watched in awe as a Fishing Charter came back and began to clean their catch from a day out.
The reef fishing is fantastic is this region and a good fishing charter will ensure a spectacular day out.
There are 2 Fishing Charters in Coral Bay, Mahi Mahi Fishing Charters and Seaforce Charters. Both charters have great success fishing the waters of the Ningaloo Reef.

Sailing and Snorkel Tour
Head out on the Coral Breeze and go sailing the waters of Ningaloo Reef before jumping in for some of the best snorkelling you could wish for.
Swim with the coral and a huge array of beautiful fish. You might also see turtles, big Cod fish, Octopus and Nemo (Anemome).
You can read more about sailing options on the Coral Breeze here.

Sunset at Pet Cemetery Hill
Take a short walk to Pet Cemetery Hill, an informal dog cemetery with amazing views over Ningaloo Reef.
We found one cross with the appropriate words ‘No More Tricks’ – ‘Time to Relax’ inscribed.
From here the sunsets can be quite spectacular over Coral Bay.

Caravan Parks
The newest Hervey Bay Caravan Park Qld

When we began looking for a Hervey Bay Caravan Park to suit our recent visit we were pleased we came across the Pier Caravan Park in Urangan.

You will find the location is great, just an easy stroll to the iconic Urangan Pier.

Hervey Bay is also the perfect place for whale watching which it is famous for. There is always plenty of options for an excellent Hervey Bay Whale Watching Cruise to choose from.
If you want to see the famous Fraser Island you can do that from Hervey Bay also.
Watch our Fishing Trip to Fraser Island here

Table of Contents
The Pier Hervey Bay Caravan Park Facilities
At The Pier Caravan Park they offer 2 modern amenities blocks which are both new and clean.
Sites are a bit larger than most Caravan Parks and you have a little more space and room to move. You can choose a slab site or grassy area within the campground.
Two excellent camp kitchens are also onsite with superb facilities including Fridge, Toaster, Microwave and the one around the pool area has BBQ’s.

A games room is also available for kids and adults to enjoy with a pool table, foosball and Xbox.
The pool is excellent and was great to cool off in, perfect for our hot summer stay.
Is The Pier Hervey Bay Caravan Park Pet Friendly?
This Hervey Bay Caravan Park is pet friendly and therefore dogs are permitted to stay. As always, whilst the Park is dog friendly they must remain on a lead and clean up after your pooch.
We had excellent coverage with both Telstra and Vodafone networks. Free Wifi is also available.

We enjoyed our Hervey Bay camping experience here, a great location and we liked that everything was clean and new.
Always check for any Hot Deals on their website, sometimes they have a Stay for 5 nights and only Pay for 4 offer.
Cost to stay is $48 per night for a powered site for 2 adults. We asked if they had any specials and received a 10% discount and paid $43.20 for our powered site. Off peak the cost is $42 a night.

What is there to do in Hervey Bay?
Go Whale Watching
Hervey Bay is considered the Whale Watching Capital of Australia, no doubt helped by the attention Mimi McPherson was able to generate during the 1990’s with her Whale Watching business in town.
During the Humpback Whale migration season Hervey Bay becomes a very popular destination for Whale watching Cruises as Humpbacks swim by in their thousands.
This Catamaran looks like a great full day out. It provides clear views all around the boat for the best viewing and the tour comes with morning and afternoon tea plus delicious lunch. There’s even Free Wifi.
Read all about the Full day Whale Watching tour here.
Otherwise this Half day Cruise is a great way to get to the areas for sighting the Whales fast and there’s an under water viewing room.
The tour comes with either morning or afternoon tea.
Read all about the Half Day Humpback Whale Cruise here

Try Fishing at Urangan Pier
Hervey Bay has one of Australia’s longest jetty’s at the Urangan Pier. Originally 1107 metres in length the Jetty is now 868 metres long and is a perfect spot for some great fishing.
A wide range of fish including whiting, flathead and bream are caught here and at the deeper channels near the end of the jetty Mackerel, Queenfish, Tuna and Golden Trevally are targeted species.
Squid are also caught at the Urangan Pier which is an easy walking distance from our favourite Hervey Bay Caravan Park.
Jig for baitfish for live bait such as herring and by keeping it alive you can use it to catch some great passing big fish.

Visit Fraser Island
Hervey Bay is one of two gateways to Fraser Island.
Make your way to River Heads and catch the Barge to Fraser Island, one of Australia’s most epic island and 4WD destinations.
We have written an Ultimate Guide to Exploring Fraser Island which will provide you everything you need to know to getting there and how to safely navigate your time on Fraser.
Also read our Full Guide on Everything to See and Do on Fraser Island. This will tell you all the places you need to see plus a few more not often on any other list.
Enjoy your time on Fraser Island, it really is magnificent and one of our very favourite destinations.

Where to eat out in Hervey Bay
The Hervey Bay Boat Club
We have visited The Boat Club for dinner on a few occasions and have enjoyed our meals each time.
On our last visit Kev enjoyed a Seafood Linguini while Adele had her favourite Calamari.
The Boat Club is located at the Hervey Bay Marina and has a great viewing deck to enjoy a drink and look out over the beautiful boats and the water in the Marina.

Indefinite Leave

We are Adele & Kevin, an Aussie couple from Brisbane in Queensland Australia who have embraced our adventurous spirit and ventured out to explore the world around us. We had spent so much time overseas we decided it was time to see our own truly amazing country and we needed to take some time to see everything it has to offer.
Our Aim is to inspire others to travel and help design the greatest adventure they can experience.
Photography and Socials
Our camera equipment we use for all of our photos and videos are:
Samsung Note 10 Plus Phone – https://ebay.to/2XOjXhi – Most of our photos are simply from our phones. The Samsung phone cameras are pretty insane. Our phones have 512gb storage in ours but the 256gb in this one is heaps. We have sourced this one which is approx $500 less than we paid for ours.
Canon 800d – https://ebay.to/2XQYnsk – the latest DSLR Canon 24mp camera, buy here to save.
Lenses
Canon 50mm lens – https://ebay.to/2yQwPed This is the lens I use the least, ideal for still, close up shots.
Canon 24-105mm lens – https://ebay.to/3eCueUo This is my all round, everyday use, zoom lens. Amazing quality, great price.
Canon 70-300mm lens – https://ebay.to/2XlOZ0I – I use this one a lot for long range shots.
Sigma 10-20mm lens – https://ebay.to/2TWt0vA – My wide angle lens for all my inside photos & video plus lots more, love this lens.
Our Go Pro 7 Hero Black – https://ebay.to/38wMc7V – is an awesome piece of equipment. I use this for all underwater, action video and some general use. Buy here brand new and great value.
Mavic Pro Platinum Drone – https://ebay.to/2ARPxTo This is an absolute ripper of a drone. The Fly More Combo will provide you with everything you will need. I use this for all my aerial footage and this price is well below other retail stores.
