Caravan Parks
Island Leisure Village, Bobs Farm NSW
The Island Leisure Village at Bobs Farm near the Central Coast NSW is a basic Caravan Park which is mostly occupied by permanent owners which takes up most of the park.
Entry is by bitumen road although it has numerous speed humps for the km or two to the park entrance. It is located right on the river where you can swim and fish and it makes for stunning sunset photos at night.
We stayed to visit friends and we did encounter some mosquitos and midges at dusk and night.
Island Leisure Village is pet friendly and we had good Telstra coverage.
The facilities are basic but there is power and water, laundry and dump point. There’s an excellent pool also available.
The Caravan Park is a short drive to stunning Nelson Bay, Shoal Bay and Fingal Bay.
The cost to stay is $35 per night for 2 adults with power and water.
Our stay was 24th November 2018.

Are the Kalbarri Caravan Parks Pet Friendly?
Kalbarri Anchorage Caravan Park, Murchison River Caravan Park and Kalbarri Tudor Holiday Park all allow pets on a seasonal basis.
Pets are allowed at Kalbarri Red Bluff Tourist Park. Dogs are also welcome at both Murchison House Station and Big River Ranch Kalbarri.
As we arrived in Kalbarri during September School holidays, our choice of a Kalbarri Caravan Parks was limited as we were travelling with our Golden Retriever MACKS.
At the time there were only 3 caravan parks as Kalbarri Red Bluff Tourist Park did not exist.
This meant we were unable to book into any of the Kalbarri Caravan Parks as they don’t allow pets during school holidays.

5 Essentials – Outside RV Accessories
- To plug your RV with standard 15amp in to standard residential 10amp power source you will need a converter. We love our waterproof Ampfibian and after over 4 years it’s still perfect.
- Most people carry a Generator for back up power. 4wd Supacentre has a good low cost and popular generator while the Yamaha 2000w is a robust yet quiet excellent performer.
- A 20m 15amp Power Lead will ensure you reach your power source in Caravan Parks and Campgrounds.
- You will want a good blue Drinking Water Hose. Your typical green garden hose is not suitable for drinking from.
- A 4 way tap handle will help you find water whenever you need it
Kalbarri Camping
There are also two camping options in and around Kalbarri, one a station stay and the other offering farm stay accommodation:
- Murchison House Station
- Big River Ranch Kalbarri
At the Murchison House Station, you can opt to camp alongside the Murchison River near the Homestead or choose bush camping anywhere on the property that you can access with your 4WD.
The Big River Ranch Kalbarri offers farm stay accommodation as well as a campground area overlooking the Murchison River.

Nature’s Window
One of the most iconic attractions in Western Australia is Nature’s Window in the Kalbarri National Park.
The mighty Murchison River is perfectly framed in this spectacular natural rock formation and is one of the most photographed attractions in WA.
Kalbarri Skywalk
A marvellous new attraction in the Kalbarri National Park is the Kalbarri Skywalk.
Two amazing cantilevered viewing platforms have been built projecting out from the rim of the Murchison Gorge.
Take a thrilling walk out on these viewing platforms for some absolutely incredible views of the surrounding gorge and the river 100 metres below.
Pelican Feeding
Each morning you can watch the resident pelicans waddle up onto the grassed area and wait for a feed of fish.
Originally Cliff Ross began feeding the pelicans in 1975 and local volunteers have continued on with the tradition of the daily pelican feeding.
Feeding starts at 8.45am on the foreshore directly opposite the Murchison Caravan Park.
A gold coin donation to help cover the cost of the fish is much appreciated.
Red Bluff Lookout
Enjoy the views of the dramatic and rugged coastal cliffs of Kalbarri and the Indian Ocean from Red Bluff Lookout.
Red Bluff Lookout is also the perfect vantage point to spot Humpback Whales on their annual migration.
The trail from Red Bluff Beach to the lookout is a 1km return walk.

By all reports there have been upgrades to the park completed and the management of the park has changed.

Mossman Swimming Pool
A Council run big 50m Olympic size swimming pool is also part of the complex and is Free to guests of Mossman Caravan Park.
Alongside the Caravan Park is the Mossman River. The water is shallow and clear and through this section of the river there are many locals who enjoy a swim and cool off on a hot day.
Access from the Caravan Park to Mossman River is challenging with a steep embankment which is often wet, muddy and overgrown from the regular rain the region receives.
A dump point is accessible at the front of the Mossman Caravan Park from the car park.
It’s an easy walk to town which we did and enjoyed having dinner one night at The Exchange Hotel, the local Pub in Mossman.
We enjoyed our stay in Mossman and found it the ideal base to visit the region. It was also around $15 a night cheaper than staying at Port Douglas.
The Mossman Caravan Park cost us $36pn plus $10 for the extra adult on a powered site.
Update November 2022: The cost now is:
- Powered site for 2 adults is $43 per night. For seniors it is $41 per night. Extra adults or children (4 years or older) are $9 each per night.

What is there to see and do in Mossman?
Mossman Gorge

The Mossman Gorge has some of the most amazing Rainforest walks you will see. You will also enjoy swimming in the cool waters of the Mossman River in the Gorge and cross the Rex Creek Suspension Bridge.
Crocodiles do not inhabit the waters of Mossman Gorge. The rocky river system and very cool waters of Mossman Gorge are not condusive for Salt Water Crocodiles.
You can also choose to do a tour of Mossman Gorge as part of an exciting day trip from Port Douglas that also includes visiting the Daintree and Cape Tribulation.
Take this tour in comfortable Mercedes vehicles with just a total of 11 guests which includes morning tea, a gourmet lunch, 4 scoops of delicious ice cream at the Daintree Ice Cream Company plus full on board commentary so you don’t miss a thing.
Daintree and Cape Tribulation
Drive north from Mossman for 25 minutes to reach the Daintree River Crossing to Daintree Rainforest and Cape Tribulation.
Described by Sir David Attenborough as “the most extraordinary place on Earth” this is where the Rainforest meets the Great Barrier Reef.
Here you will find the most stunning beaches and incredible fauna and flora. You find creatures big and small, some found nowhere else in the world.
Don’t miss a visit to the Daintree Ice Cream Company and have lunch at Thornton’s Cafe amongst the trees overlooking the beach.
Book a tour to the Daintree Rainforest and Cape Tribulation and do the River Cruise spotting crocodiles, have lunch at Cape Tribulation, walk on the beach and take in the remarkable views from the Alexandra Range Lookout.
Port Douglas Cruise
The Great Barrier Reef is on the doorstep from Mossman and there’s some great options for visiting and enjoying some snorkelling and diving around the coral and fish at Agincourt Reef.
From Port Douglas the Great Barrier Reef Cruise looks fantastic with a big pontoon to relax on or some fantastic snorkelling to enjoy.
A hot and cold smorgasbord lunch is also provided.

Hook-a-Barra
Have fun catching the prized Barramundi at the local Hook-a-Barra.
Hook-a-Barra is a salt water fish farm which breeds Barramundi to be supplied to restaurants all over the country.
We had a great time fishing the ponds with thousands of Barra and learning the art of catching these highly sought after fighters.
Shannonvale Tropical Fruit Winery
We visited the Shannonvale Tropical Fruit Winery and were delighted at the Tropical Fruit wines that were available.
We tasted some fabulous wines, some Fortified wines and a Port. There’s even a Chocolate Fortified wine which was great.
The winery is in Mossman at 417 Shannonvale Road.
Hartley’s Crocodile Adventures
Just 25 minutes south from Port Douglas is the award winning Hartley’s Crocodile Adventures tourist attraction.
See Salt Water Crocodiles, Cassowaries, Koalas, Wombats and so many more incredible Australian animals.
Book your ticket to Hartley’s Crocodile Adventures here.
Where to Eat out in Mossman:
The Exchange Hotel
We enjoyed a fabulous dinner at the Queensland Heritage listed Exchange Hotel in Mossman during our first stay.
First established in 1896 the Exchange Hotel in Mossman was damaged by several cyclones. In 1934 a cyclone once again casued significant damage and a new Exchange Hotel was built and opened in 1935.
We enjoyed an excellent Pub meal and our favourite drinks on tap and watched as the long sugar cane train passed by outside the window.
Beechwoods Cafe
The Beechwoods Cafe is a great spot for breakfast or lunch which excellent coffee and juices and a range of food available.
It is located at 13 Front Street in Mossman.

The strong german influence can still be seen in the restaurants, cafes, pubs, bakeries, small goods and stores selling cuckoo clocks and hand crafted leather.
A range of other stores also make Hahndorf a shopper’s and foodie’s delight!
The Big Rocking Horse
In the Adelaide Hills, just 40 minutes from Adelaide is the Big Rocking Horse and Toy Factory.
The Big Rocking Horse stands at over 18.3 metres tall, 17 metres in length and weighs 25 tonnes.
It is the world’s largest Rocking Horse and is recorded in the Guiness Book of Records.
You can climb this super-sized rocking horse for just $2 and you will receive a Certificate of Achievement.
While at the Big Rocking Horse, wander through Australia’s largest wooden toy factory or check out the Animal Farm.
Entry to the Animal Farm is $2 and you can also purchase a $2 bag of food to feed the animals as you walk among the animals.

Visit the Barossa Valley
The Barossa Valley is just a 35 minute drive from the Highway 1 Caravan Park.
Set aside a day or two and visit the many wineries in the Barossa Valley. The Barossa is also just an hour or so’s drive from Adelaide CBD.
There are around 150 wineries in the Barossa Valley and with over 80 cellar doors you are bound to get a true taste of the one of the World’s great wine regions.
We managed to tick off a number of cellar doors in the Barossa Valley with our great travel friends Scott and Kerry.

Photography and Socials
Our camera equipment we use for all our photos and videos are:
Samsung Note 10 Plus Phone – http://ebay.us/9vMXEH – Most of our photos are simply from our phones. The Samsung phone cameras are pretty insane. Our phones have 512gb storage in ours but the 256gb in this one is heaps. We have sourced this one which is approx $500 less than we paid for ours.
Samsung s21 Phone – https://ebay.us/QAdwva – this looks an insane camera within a phone. We have friends and our son who own one and it seems quite extraordinary with their camera quality. If you’re after a new phone this is what I’d be looking at.
Canon 800d – https://ebay.us/Q0UV1z – the latest DSLR Canon 24mp camera, buy here to save.
Nikon Coolpix p1000 – https://ebay.to/37cORUV – We have the Nikon P900 and this is the new model. The zoom lens is unbelievable and so awesome when travelling and you want to capture photos from a distance.
Lenses
Canon 50mm lens – https://ebay.to/3nx5pyG This is the lens I use the least, ideal for still, close up shots.
Canon 24-105mm lens – https://ebay.us/br9MeO This is my all round, everyday use, zoom lens. Amazing quality, great price.
Canon 70-300mm lens – https://ebay.to/33xYeht – I use this one a lot for long range shots.
Sigma 10-20mm lens – http://ebay.us/zWvfuI – My wide angle lens for all my inside photos & video plus lots more, love this lens.
Our Go Pro 9 Hero Black – https://ebay.us/6CQOVC – is an awesome piece of equipment. I use this for all underwater, action video and some general use. Buy here brand new and great value.
Mavic Pro Platinum Drone – https://ebay.to/2ARPxTo This is an absolute ripper of a drone. The Fly More Combo will provide you with everything you will need. I use this for all my aerial footage and this price is well below other retail stores.
